New for Spring 2024 - We are testing out a shorter group run on Sundays. This will be a starting point if you're looking to see what trail running has to offer. The first date is Sunday February 11, 2024.

The Trails 101 group is for people new to trail running. Maybe you've been reluctant to hit the trails alone, or you're coming back from an injury.  Or maybe you've just moved to Squamish and want to see what our backyard is all about. This is a fun and stress-free group. We will have someone from capra at the back of the group, making sure that no one gets left behind.

Due to the size of the Trails 101 run group, and it's start/stop nature,
we ask that you leave any dogs at home

GROUP LEADER - RANDY KLASSEN

Randy is a strong believer in the power of just starting. Nobody ever finish something, that they don't start. The Trails 101 run group is a place for you to get a start at trail running. The goal of the group is to have fun, meet other runners, and get out on a weekly Sunday run.  For context, Randy made his trail debut at age 49, and his only regret being that he didn't discover that start line sooner in life. He's more than happy to encourage you on your first steps on the trail. Come on out. Get started. Who knows where you'll finish!
OTHER TEAM MEMBERS
You'll likely get to meet (and run with) several of the regulars, and a few of the other capra staff

THIS GROUP IS NOT ABOUT SPEED...

IT'S FOR PEOPLE WHO RUN A COUPLE TIMES PER WEEK
You run a couple times a week, and can tackle 5km-8km, but you have been a bit tentative about running in the trails.  This is a non competitive, no pressure sort of a group, where the focus is on having fun and moving together in nature.
HOW FAR ARE THE RUNS?
They will be between 3km and 7km, with between 100m and 300m of vertical gain. If you’re coming from a road running background, you’ll likely find the difference in pace and distance quite shocking.

We recommend not pausing your watch, or maybe not even bringing it, and embracing the different flow and pacing of trail running. The majority of runners hike up hills on the trails and that can take some getting used to.

Once you embrace the more mellow pace, and take time to look around, you’ll likely be transformed into a trail runner!
HOW FAST IS THE GROUP?
Conversational speed. The group runs when terrain allows, and hikes when it gets steep. The speed will be slightly more mellow than our Social Saturdays to adjust for those newer to trail running. We will re-group at all intersections and no one will ever be left behind.
HOW LONG WILL WE BE GONE?
It will change slightly week to week. On average we will be out for ONE hour of a mix of running and hiking. This will change based on the group, the trail conditions, the weather, and if we run from the store or drive to a nearby trail head.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Just a positive attitude! We recommend that everyone have proper trail running shoes, but it’s not necessary for just starting out. We also may have a demo fleet of shoes that you can borrow for the run. You may also decide to invest in a pack - to carry hydration and nutrition as your runs get longer and the temperatures heat up - but not mandatory for this group

HOW DO I SIGN UP OR REGISTER?
